  • Burial: Adairville, Logan County, Kentucky, USABGO3
  • Birth: November 1732; Sussex County, Virginia, USABGO3,1,2

  • Death: 20 May 1796; Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina, USABGO3,1,2
  • Note: Thomas Townsend apparently fought in the American Revolution with troops from South Carolina, and at least one of his descendants joined the Daughters of the American Revolution on that record. The DAR Patriot Index lists him thus: "Thomas Townsend, born 1732, died 1796. Married Anphilida Watson. Soldier, South Carolina."

There are conflicting accounts regarding the names of his parents. Riely Leon, in his Genealogy of the Townshend-Townsend Family, identifies his father as "John Townsend," but does not identify his mother. The Thomas Townsend memorial on Find A Grave shows his parents as Benadictus Townsend (1710-1790) and Lucille Light (1715-1769), a daughter of William Light. Although the Find A Grave is unsourced, the level of detail it provides adds some credibility to its assertions.
