  • Military: About 1777; A brief mention in Tyler’s Quarterly says that Charles Browning (1746-1839) “became a captain in the Revolutionary War.” FindaGrave says he served as a captain in “Colonel Alexander Spotswood's Regiment of the Virginia Line,” who, according to the FamilySearch wiki, commanded the 2nd Virginia Regiment from 21 Feb 1777 to 9 Oct 1777. However, Charles Browning is not listed on that wiki, nor does he show up on Fold3 or in any of the 2nd Virginia Regiment documentation I was able to find.2,7,8,9
  • Possessions: Before 1839; Rappahannock County, Virginia, USABGO; Charles Browning settled on a tract of land given to him by his father-in-law, Capt. John Strother. Charles' estate, which he named "Greenfield," was at the foot of the Blue Ridge in the "Browning District," then Culpepper, then Rappahannock County2
