Joseph MORTON (M)

Joseph MORTON was born in 1708/9. He married Agnes WOODSON, daughter of Richard WOODSON and Ann SMITH, circa 1730.1 Joseph MORTON died on 28 June 1782.
Joseph MORTON Agnes was married about 1730 to Joseph Morton who was born 1709, and died June 28, 1782. He settled at Little Roanoke Bridge, in Charlotte county, Virginia, about 1745; was a surveyor by occupation, and secretary to Randolph. He was founder of Briery Presbyterian Church, was first ruling elder and first trustee. Was trustee visitor and manager of Hampden Sidney College; justice of the peace of Charlotte county 1769, and member of the committee of safety in Charlotte county, February, 1775. (See Foote's Sketches of Virginia, vols. I and II.) This Joseph Morton was a nephew of Thomas Morton who married Agnes' sister Elizabeth Woodson.1
