Hilaria Samaniego was born circa September 1850 at Mexico; Although the 1900, 1910, and 1920 censuses suggest that she was born sometime between 1846 and 1859 (the 1920 census indicates that she was born in the month of October); her son Vicente indicates on her death certificate that she was born in September 1850.1,4,5,6 She married Senon Reyes, son of Sebastian Reyes and Abina Moreno, between 1877 and 1880 at Mexico; In the 1900 census, Senon and Hilaria claim to have been married for 23 years; in the 1910 census, they claim to have been married for 30 years.4,5,6 Her married name was Reyes. Hilaria Samaniego died on 16 September 1928; Hilaria's cause of death is shown as "unknown" on her death certificate, as no doctor was in attendance.1 She was buried on 17 September 1928 at Dona Ana, Dona Ana County, New Mexico.1

Oral family history indicates that Hilaria was a full-blooded Yaqui Indian.

Although Hilaria's maiden name was shown as Samaniego on Matilde's death certificate, her parents are shown as "unknown" on her own death certificate.3,1
