  • Note: Matilde's death certificate indicates that she was born in Arizona in 1879. However, the 1910 census indicates that she immigrated to the United States in 1887 and was born in Mexico. According to oral family history, the family moved to Arizona from Mexico shortly before Matilde's brother (Vicente Reyes) was born in May 1890. Moreover, no record of the Reyes family could be found in the 1880 Arizona census, suggesting that the death certificate was probably in error and that she was probably really born in Mexico.

According to her death certificate, Matilde lived on the road between the Wylie Store and school house near Dona Ana. She was a housewife and kept house until October 1930, when she apparently contracted tuberculosis. She died two months later, on 4 December 1930. The 1910 census shows that she spoke Spanish, but could not speak English; nor could she read or write.
