John R. Price1
born before 1848
Facts and Notes
- Birth: Before 1848; In Early Settlers of Alabama, James Saunders indicates that the 4th son of William H. Price and Elizabeth Dixon was born 12 years before the civil war started (about 1848); John Price is the third son and therefore would have been born before that date.1
- Anecdote: About 1861; See person note below.1
- Note: In Early Settlers of Alabama, James Saunders writes that John Price was attending a military school somewhere in the North when the US Civil War broke out. He went to Richmond and joined an Alabama regiment. He was detached and sent to Florida as a drillmaster and thence to North Carolina. Here he joined a company which was sent out to
Scotland, to bring a vessel which was being built for the Confederacy. The British Admiralty forbade the sailing of the vessel, and the company had to return home.
