  • Note: William was born in Craven County, North Carolina, but had probably already moved to Dobbs county by 1755, when he married Sara Stansall there. He was still in Dobbs County as late as 1775, when, at the age of about 45, he enlisted in the state Minute Men. He served as a lieutenant in Capt. Jesse Cobb's company, North Carolina troops, and died in Wayne County in 1797.
